A long-term partnership

Over an extended period, Clemondo’s IT environment had evolved without a cohesive direction. New needs were addressed through separate systems, customizations, and vendor-specific solutions. Over time, this model unfortunately led to a fragmented IT landscape driving high operating and maintenance costs.

In parts of the environment, clear ownership, documentation, and governance were lacking. At the same time, dependencies between systems, integrations, and licensing models made the overall landscape difficult to manage and oversee. For the business, this resulted in increased costs and limited flexibility.

As the pace of digitalization and automation accelerated, Clemondo’s requirements for speed, stability, and adaptability increased. The existing digital capabilities were not sufficiently equipped to meet this development and therefore limited the company’s ability to fully capitalize on the rapidly expanding opportunities within digitalization.

Together with ndigital, Clemondo initiated a deliberate shift from a cost-driven and reactive IT organization to a proactive and business-focused digital capability. The ambition has not been to be at the forefront of the technology curve. Instead, the focus has been on using the IT budget strategically and long-term to generate value from both existing and new investments. Investments have been prioritized based on a clear connection to business objectives.

Over the years, around ten projects of varying size and complexity have been carried out. ndigital has acted as a guiding partner and has provided digital leadership throughout the entire transformation journey. Each initiative has contributed to gradually reducing complexity and stabilizing the environment. Costly custom solutions have been replaced with more standardized alternatives. The focus has shifted from maintaining legacy solutions to enabling forward-looking development.

As part of the transformation, a new technical direction was established, based on ndigital’s reference architecture — ndigital Core — for integrations and information flows. This model has created greater control, reduced risk, and increased flexibility. In parallel, IT governance, structure, and compliance have been strengthened. The work has contributed to establishing a forward-leaning IT organization with a stable foundation for continued development.

For Clemondo, the transformation has resulted in a clear reallocation of IT costs. By reducing dependence on complex custom solutions and technical debt, the focus has shifted from extensive support and maintenance efforts to more predictable and stable operations — creating room for investment and forward momentum.

The increased stability has had a strongly positive impact on the business, not least in terms of production reliability. The organization has developed a deeper understanding of technology and digitalization, which has led to several customer-facing investments and initiatives.

Overall, ndigital and Clemondo have together established a cost-efficient and robust IT organization, creating strong conditions to progressively capture new opportunities within digitalization and AI at a pace aligned with the needs of the business.
